Joan Perry Brock Center

Longwood University

This new convocation center will be located in the heart of the Longwood University campus. It’s location is the final major portion of Brock Commons that can be built and will complete the desired definition of this central pedestrian corridor.

Designed to reinforce the historical traditional Jeffersonian architecture prevalent on campus, this new building features the traditional campus palette of red brick and light colored trim work. Unique to the building will be the ability to enter from 3 sides of the building – Brock Commons, Willet Plaza (a newly created pedestrian way connecting to Moss & Johns Residential Halls) and the East Entry to campus. These three entries each feature a series of continuous arches of precast stone bracketed by brick pavilions at the four corners.

The overall design aesthetic references traditional and historic arenas around the country which have an intimacy/scale that makes for a more energetic venue. The exterior architecture will also be reflected on the interior making for a unique and iconic venue for Longwood.

Working in collaboration with RRMM (executive architect) and AECOM (sports/venue architect) this $32M project will host a variety of campus venues including basketball games, convocations, concerts, debates, dinners, etc.
